Energy Day 2013

  • On July 3rd 2013, the Second Congress of “Energy Day” took place at Westin Lima Hotel that Laub & Quijandría, Consultants and Lawyers organize annually under the sponsorship of the leading companies in the sector and the concurrence of the most distinguished representatives of the government and enterprises and related energy sector institutions.

    This time the theme of the event was: “How to accelerate investments in the energy sector (electricity, oil, gas and renewables) and develop sustainable sources for country’s growth?”

    The program included four sessions:


    • South Gas Pipeline Project Progress;
    • The energy perspective and the situation of the hydrocarbons and electricity sector to medium term (from 2016 to 2020);
    • Renewable energies and its impact on the energy matrix; and,
    • The progress in investment in the sector and socio-environmental permits and licenses.

     

    Welcome

    In his introduction Eng.Jaime Quijandría, socio de Laub & Quijandría Consultants and lawyers, referred to the importance of planning to timely identify sectoral issues and the importance of reaching consensus between public and private stakeholders to solve them. Eng. Quijandría added that our consultancy will continue to organize annually “Energy Day” in order to contribute to an energy agenda that facilitates the development of projects that the growth of our country requires.

    General Conclusions

    The audience of approximately 300 people, including domestic and foreign experts, intensively discussed the issues of the program and among the most important conclusions and recommendations were: (i) institutionalization of planning as a mechanism of public-private agreement; (ii) the urgency of decisions to implement key energy infrastructure projects, (iii) transformation of public enterprises, particularly Petroperu and Electroperú as tools that add value and allow public investment to fulfill its catalytic role and (iv ) the need to accelerate the penetration of renewable energy in the energy matrix at long term.
